No New Posts since your last visit. Children spend 7 hours a day in 'electronic life'

Sunday Times 31.1.10 reports that a new generation of multi-media children are spending an average of seven hours per day glued to smartphones, ipods, TVs and video games. Youngsters aged 8-18 spend almost every waking minute outside school using some electronic device.

What do you think about young people spending so much time on these gadgets? What are the advantages and disadvantages of it?

Conrad Murray was Michael Jackson's personal doctor. He was due in court today to face charges in connection with Jackson's death. Murray admitted giving drugs to Jackson to help him sleep. Members of his family want the doctor to face at least a second-degree murder charge.

BBC News-22/2/10

The Science and Technology Committee at The House of Commons say using public money on highly-diluted remedies can't be justified.
Manufacturers and supporters of homeopathy disputed the report.
They say the MPs have ignored imported evidence.
About £4m a year is speant on homeopathy by the NHS. It helps funding  four homeopathic hospitals in London, Bristol, Liverpool and Glasgow.

No New Posts since your last visit. About the flooding and electronic overload!!

I think that the council and united utilities should take responsibility for the flooding of the pond between them. If a national organisation and a local one get together to solve problems there is more likely to be a satisfactory outcome rather than one side blaming the other and side-stepping responsibilty.

On the subject of teenagers and electronic overload - is it a question of balance? Who should make sure that they devote time to other things - the teenager or their parent??

Your views on this and other subjects are welcome.
Thanks to all Socrates Club members who came to the meeting today and joined in discussion.
