Treasure

Our IPC topic in this term is Treasure. We began the topic by considering what is Treasure to us. We then looked at the treasures that we have as evidence of how life was lived in Ancient Egypt. We will research the opening of Tutankhamun's tomb and the treasure that was found inside.

To launch our investigations into Ancient Egypt we visited the Floral Pavillion to see a production of Horrible Histories.

Literacy

Our first topic in Literacy was story settings. We looked closely at settings in Toy Story and wrote about "Sid's room" and our own bedrooms.

Our next topic was report writing, looking closely at cycling.

We filmed ourselves being news reporters and then we prepared reports on racing bikes, mountain bikes and BMX bikes.

Our next topic is shape poetry and calligrams.

Year 3 began the year by being introduced to the VLE. The first thing we discussed is the safe use of the VLE. Year 3 can now log on to the site at home and in school using their passwords. They can also add posts on forums and to learn to message other users.
Later in the year the children will learn to use fonts and graphics. These skills will help them to make their own homepages on the VLE.

During Year 3 Religious Education is taught by Mrs Perree.
At the start of the year the focus will be on Christianity and the importance of the Bible to Christians. Year 3 enjoyed a trip to St Bartholemew's Church and searched for Christian symbols within the Church. Many thanks to the parents who accompanied us on the trip and in particular to Rev Jane who made us so welcome.
