A group of BL6 students raised money for Centre Point this month by persuading a group of their teachers to take part in a Bush Tukka Trial. Watched by the lower school, the group had to overcome their phobias and eat crickets, worms, fried maggots, pigs heart, brains and fish eyes.

The event was won by Chris Cooney, who was appropriately dressed in an Outback costume and enjoyed by all, raising over £300 for the Charity.

BLS Students head to Parliament

March 2011

Year 12 politics students from BLS recently travelled to London to take part in a debate about the nature of reform for the House of Lords. Rather than passively observing the debate, however, BLS students were invited to attend Parliament's upper chamber and put forward their own views. In a revesal of normal practice, it was the sitting peers who had to listen to ordinary members of the public decide their fate. The debate was chaired by the Lord Speaker herself, Baroness Hayman, and attended by notable public figures such as Bill Morris, who himself was a member of the Royal Commision on the Reform of the House of Lords.

The visit to Parliament tied in with the students' study of Britain's constitution. The students will soon benefit from a Q & A session with Baroness Newlove, a newly appointed member of the House of Lords, who will be visiting BL6 in the near future.
