Kingsmead Primary School > Classes > Reception

Half way through the year already!

 Next week is science week!
The children will have an opportunity to take part in a number of science experiments, we will see the 'Microcopes and Minibeasts' show and visit the Year 6 Science Fair. How exciting!

Some parents have asked me about the 'food' games we have been playing in class. If you want to play at home (it's great for co-ordination, problem solving and fine motor skills) you can find them here and here.

After Easter we will be thinking about Spring, and as usual we have wish list! Could we please have any old ladies tights, metal implements and tools for our wind chime, and as many oddments and balls of wool as you can spare please?

Over the summer we had a 'rodent visitor' in our shed, and we have lost some of our outside play equipment due to nibbling! We are reordering, but I wonder if you have any of these items at home that are no longer needed?
A tent
camping equipment
folding chairs
outdoor push-along toys (wheelbarrow, pram etc)
outdoor furniture
unwanted garden games

Many thanks!

Are there any parents 'brave' enough to come and bake with the children?

The weather is getting very cold, please make sure your child has a named hat and gloves in school..

Mystery readers
We have now had several mystery readers, the children have been delighted to have special readers and have listened enthralled to the lovely stories.
If you would like to be a mystery reader, and come in to school and read the end of day story to the class, please let us know. This is a lovely opportunity to share a book with your children and their friends. Please DON'T tell your child if you are going to do this, as we want to maintain the element of surprise and delight as you walk through the door!

Lunch - you can swap lunch between packed and school options on a daily basis.
Home / School and reading books need to be in book bags every day.
Learning journeys will be electronic this year, I will send a copy home every half term, but if you would like to see your child's learning journey just let me know and I can organise that for you.
Tricky words will come home at some point with your child, please help them learn them by sight.
There are no silly questions, if you have anything you would like to ask, then please don't hesitate! :)

Your child will need in school every day:

a named water bottle

a coat (waterproof with a hood if possible)

named wellies

PE kit

book bag with reading book and home / school book in it

Please can you make sure your child does not bring in any personal items to school e.g. toys, lip gloss, bags etc. This will help avoid your child getting upset when their personal items go missing or get broken.
