We began the new academic year again by offering our 'Supporting Your Child's Reading' session for parents. This session was aimed at parents who wanted to find out more about how children learn to read & how they can support their own child's reading progress and those parents & carers who wished to become a reading mentor in school, reading with a small group of children at a dedicated time each week. The sessions were attended by over 20 parents.
We will again be offering 'Preparing Your Child For Primary School' in the Summer term for parents of children starting school in Sept 2012.
Reading Mentors (Academic Year)201-2012
Once again we are able to provide Reading Mentors for every child in Key Stage 1 and to every class in Key Stage 2. Thank you to all those adults who regularly volunteer their time to this role. If you can offer an hour and a half a week and would like to be a Reading Mentor we would like to hear from you, please contact Sue Jenkins or Emma Miller. (Please note - all our reading mentors are subject to CRB checks & safe guarding training).
Reading Mentors are an invaluable asset to the children, providing an opportunity to read 1:1 with a regular adult. A big thank you to all those parents/carers who have committed time to the scheme over the past four years.
Thank You!
Thank you to all parents/carers who have attended our training sessions to date. We look forward to meeting more of you in the coming year. We are always interested in listening to your ideas about the kinds of sessions you would like us to provide for parents & will be sending out a questionnaire at some point this year.
