Preparation for School
You are your child’s first and most important teachers, helping them to develop from birth to a youngster of almost five years old.
There are many ways in which a parent can help to prepare a child for school. Talk about the new `adventure’ never threaten a child with the school - `you won’t be able to do that when you get to school’ is a bit off putting, even if it may be true!
Help your child to cope easily by easing away practical problems: try to ensure your child can use the toilet correctly without an adult’s help, encourage him/her to dress and undress by themselves, teach him/her to handle cutlery correctly and safely.
Prepare your child for learning by talking to him/her, reading stories and looking at colourful, interesting pictures together. Try to encourage him/her to handle books carefully, to hold a pencil or crayon properly and to put his/her own toys away. In the classroom situation, simple skills and good habits are very important.
