Geography
Geography teaches an understanding of the world around us. Here at Brierley we aim:
-
To stimulate children's interest in their surroundings and in the variety of human and physical conditions on the Earth's surface.
-
To foster children's sense of wonder at the beauty of the world around them.
-
To help children to develop an informed concern about the quality of the environment and the future of the human habitat.
-
To learn life skills through the use of maps, research, investigation, and problem solving.
-
To enhance children's sense of responsibility for the care of the Earth and its people.
At Key stage 1 pupils study the world around them paying particular attention to their home, school and Crewe itself. In key stage 2 pupils focus more on wider issues such as life in contrasting environments, both in the UK and abroad; physical processes such as mountains and rivers; as well as local and global environmental issues. Fieldtrips are encouraged to support pupil’s understanding. |
