In recognition of the work the whole school has done in promoting Olympic and Paralympic values, Christ the King’s Headteacher Mrs Clare Bates and School Sports Coach Mr Norman Hill attended a LOCOG conference in London.
Introduced by Lord Coe and hosted by Jonathan Edwards, the conference gave Mrs Bates and Mr Hill the chance to engage with members of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games, staff from the Department for Education, the Chair of the British Olympic Committee and the Chair of the British Paralympic Committee as well as gold medal wining Olympians and Paralympians and other schools and organisations from around the country. Representatives from the organisers of the Rio Olympics in 2016 also took part.
Mrs Bates said,”It was an exciting day and we are delighted to have been asked to help plan how our country can seize the momentum of the wonderful events of the Summer to create real and lasting change for our young people.”
