Dean Oaks EAL Resource Centre is funded by Cheshire East Council.
The centre has a large collection of resources spanning 59 languages.
These include resources for use with Early Years, Primary and Secondary pupils learning English.
There are Topic Boxes, dictionaries, translators, dual language books, EAL Readers, CD Roms, games, picture packs, artefacts and photocopiable resources as well as teacher information books.
Resources may be loaned, free of charge, for up to half a term and renewed if required.
We also subscribe to the BLADE Education website enabling all Cheshire East schools to use this online community cohesion tool. It has twenty-one short films in fifteen languages which help EAL children to socially integrate.

We are open on Mondays and Fridays from 9.30 am to 3 pm (Atsuko).
Our EAL tutor, Sue Briggs is not available any longer after March 2012 but she is available to give EAL training courses.

The EAL Tutor,Sue Briggs (now independant) will run training courses for teachers and TAs at Dean Oaks with information and ideas for welcoming new arrivals and supporting the progress of more advanced learners.

Supporting Advanced Learners of EAL in Primary School
Whilst it takes up to two years for an EAL pupil to acquire conversational English skills, to takes much longer to acquire the full range of speech and literacy skills needed to operate at an academic level.
This half-day training will provide colleagues strategies and techniques that will povide bilingual pupils the right support and appropriate challenge for them to achieve at a high standard.
