What is Out of Hours Learning?

Study Support is learning which takes place outside normal lessons which young people
can take part in voluntarily. Its purpose is to improve children and young people's
motivation and self-esteem and helping them to become more effective learners
resulting in an improvement in achievement and attainment.

 Example activities
  • Sports clubs e.g. football, netball
  • Music clubs
  • Arts and Crafts clubs
  • Hobby activities and games clubs e.g. Chess
  • Technology, including ICT
  • Cookery clubs
  • Homework clubs including access to libraries
  • Booster and revision sessions linked to specific subjects e.g. numeracy, literacy
  • Summer schools
  • Shooting Stars clubs


Activities can take place:
  • Before school
  • Break times
  • Lunchtimes
  • After school
  • Weekends
  • School holidays
