Welcome to the Broken Spoke Sportive 2012 - a cycling challenge which also raises funds for The Catholic High School, Chester. The event is registered and insured with British Cycling and runs through the stunning scenery of Cheshire, Shropshire and north Wales, and despite the name its all on tarmac. Participants have 2 routes to choose from: 55 miles and 85 miles both offering a serious challenge and epic scenery.
The date has just been set for next year and has been moved from August to May 27th Event entry will be on-line this year via British Cycling
There will be a slight tweak to the routes, food stops in St Martins, near Ruthin and pasta back at the HQ. All junctions marked, garmin type files will be made available, motorcycle marshals and a broom wagon in operation.
Costs for the 85 mile route will be £20 + 60p and the 55 mile route will be £17 + 60p.
The short route has everything including 3500 ft of climbing!
The long route features two feed stops with the first after an undulating leg to St Martins and then via a more challenging route to Pontfadog, Berwyn and over the Shoe and down the Garth to just outside Ruthin for beans on toast. It's at this point both routes meet up and follow the same challenging route back to Chester starting with an epic climb followed by a rolling descent. There is a small sting in the tail before the route makes its way back to Pulford before turning back to the school for the final 5 miles.
The HQ (The Catholic High School, Chester) is open from 0800hrs and all riders will depart at approx 0900hrs. The first riders on the longer route should be at St Martins for approx 1010hrs whilst the quicker shorter route riders will be at Ruthin from around 1020hrs. Its then anticipated that the lead riders on the longer route will start to arrive at Ruthin from approx 1145hrs. The HQ will close once we are sure everyone is accounted for.
