Welcome to Reception! We are very much looking forward to getting to know all of you and learning lots of new things!
Over the next few days we will be settling the children into the school routine. If you have any questions and concerns at any time please feel free to come and see us. We are available either in the morning for a quick query or after school if you need more time.
Our topic this half term will be Ourselves. We will be learning all about our school routines, learning our class rules and covering the following activities.
Make a book about myself
Stories about feelings
Experimenting with mark making using crayons, chalks, pencils etc
Discussing simple picture books
Recognising name, simple word and spelling with magnetic letters
Letters and sounds sessions
Sorting activities-including children by colour of clothes, boys, girls etc.
Numbers in simple rhymes and songs
Recognition of numbers, counting objects, counting to 10 and beyond
Make a class height chart, use descriptive and comparative language
Recognition of 2D shapes and their properties
Use language more and less in counting activities
Handling data- sorting and classifying objects in different ways
Knowledge and Understanding the World-
Activities using our 5 senses eg. taste
Free block play
Make a house with wooden bricks or construction set
Identify local landmarks and those we pass on the way to school
Draw simple maps of the route from home to school
Talk about special days eg birthdays
Use the computers and interactive whiteboard
Look at each other, look in the mirror –make portraits
Printing with hands, feet, leaves etc
Look at the work of Kandinsky and self portraits of Van Gogh
Singing simple songs and nursery rhymes
Accompany songs with instruments, keeping the beat
¨ Please leave your child's P.E. bag in school all week and ensure all items of clothing are named, both P.E. items and school uniform.
¨ Your child will be issued with a named water bottle. Please send it in daily with fresh water.
