Welcome back from the holidays, we hope you had a wonderful time! We are very excited to announce that this term our topic is…
In addition to the great progress we are making in Letters and Sounds, we will be introducing traditional and non traditional African stories; we will also be looking at non fiction information books to help us learn more about the different cultures.
As well as ensuring the children get a rounded education regarding Numeracy, we will also be incorporating our topic by using stories like ‘Handa’s Surprise’ to help us learn about collecting data.
We will be learning about different styles of African Music and Dance, and getting a chance to try some of these styles out, as we will have the use of real African drum sets and instruments.
We will be recreating different African styles of art, such as kente printing, batik work and African pottery. We will be exploring different ways of creating this art by using clay, printing, collage and textiles.
We will be learning about all the different ways of life in Africa. We will look at different types of food, different areas of Africa, the animals and plant life, the styles of clothing. We will look at any similarities and differences of life here in England compared to parts of Africa. We are going to be learning about the charity WaterAid and the work that they do.
On Friday February 1st, a very special person will be visiting the Reception class! A Safari Ranger from Chester Zoo will be coming to talk to the children about African Animals. We hope to take the children on a trip to the zoo later this term.
We would be very grateful if the children could bring their P.E kits in as soon as possible and for them to remain in school throughout the week.
We are both looking forward to an exciting term, we hope the children are too!
