At Stanley School we have great fun with a variety of Art topics, as you can see with this group of KS1 children.
In Early Years the emphasis is on experimenting with a variety of media and techniques. As the children progress up through the school different topics are introduced to help the children use and develop their skills and creativity. The topics are adapted from those used in mainstream schools.
Our first topic this year in KS1 was 'Portraits'. As you can see the children studied their faces in a mirror before taking care to draw them with lots of detail. We had great fun mixing and testing paint colours (on hands and sometimes faces...) before sponging a thin wash of colour over the drawings.
The finished portraits are displayed in the corridor along with photos of the children working.
