ABOUT US
Hermitage Primary School opened in 1970, and caters for children aged 4-ll years of age. At present, there are  210 children on roll(May 2013). We have an experienced Headteacher who has been in post for 16 years at Hermitage. She is a Local Leader of Education. The seven classes are taught by nine teachers with Years 1 and 3 being taught within two job shares. Ten  Teaching Assistants across the school lead intervention strategies ensuring all pupils access differentiated tasks.

Our school also has a resourced provision for children with autism. This was established in 2007 and can take seven pupils from age 4-11. The children are included in their mainstream class as much as possible, with appropriate support from our specialist team of a teacher and three Teaching Assistants; or they may be taught individually or in small groups for aspects of the curriculum that they find particularly challenging. We also have a speech and language therapist attached to the provision for one day each week.

There are eight separate teaching spaces, each one having an adjoining activity area.  We have a separate computer suite for whole class teaching.  A classroom extension was completed in July 2002.  The hall is at the centre of the school and provides a natural focus for assemblies, music, drama and physical activities.  A library and media resource centre was completed in September 2004 adjoining the ICT suite. The PTFA have bought a total of 30 laptops and 30 computers to support the pupils learning.  The Offices at the front of school were developed in 2006 increasing the size of the staffroom, creating a music room and a reprographics area.

Outside there is a large hard surface play area with a ball wall and marked out with a netball and basketball court. An attractive flower filled pergola offers seating for a class of children. Additional seating bays offer quiet corners for children to read and talk with friends. An outside classroom was funded by our PTFA in the summer of 2012. A Parents Waiting area has been created at the front and back of school.

A bark chip adventure play area with a triple balance beam, chain walk, limbo hurdles, balancing logs and log walk weavers adjoins the fast play area. The tarmac has a variety of games painted on it including a 100 number square, a compass, snake, footprints and rocket. An area of artificial grass runs alongside the large playground. Footprints snake around the edge of the playground. These lead the children on the Golden Mile - eight circuits of the playgound. It keeps us all fit!

The large field is well used for football, cricket, athletics and play. The grounds are landscaped and a small woodland area has been developed for imaginary play and scientific study. The children helped to design and build a willow tunnel at the edge of the playing field. A bird nesting box with camera is a feature of the grounds resulting in huge anticipation each year. A bird hide is the next planned addition to the grounds - summer 2013.

The school has managed its own allotment with nine raised beds for many years. A weekly club is run by the Headteacher and TA and children grow lettuce, tomatoes, beetroot, carrots, potatoes, beans, sweet corn, pumpkins, rhubarb and a variety of soft fruits. An orchard has been planted and appples, pears, plums and cherries are harvested. The three grapevines are slow growing but we are hopeful in the future! We enter the RHS Tatton Show each year with produce. Classes share the raised beds holding competitions - the tallest sunflower, the heaviest pumpkin, selling daffodils to parents as part of a business enterprise or creating a themed garden by colour.

A wildlife garden was created a few years ago in the top corner of the field. Here plants which encourage insects are planted. A bug hotel is popular. The ECO team look after this area and it is used by the children in their science investigations such as habitats and seed dispersal.
