The Friends of Marlfields

Our mission statement:

To provide means for social fellowship amongst members.

To foster and support the welfare of the school

Raise funds to support and improve facilities and opportunities for our children

Create opportunities for social interaction for the parents and the children.

The Friends of Marlfields is a fundraising committee run by parents of children in the school. It helps provide all those little extras that enhance the children’s lives in school.

ALL parents automatically become members of the Friends of Marlfields when their child joins the school.  The social and fundraising events organised continue to provide money for much needed extras such as trips, books, equipment.

What do we do?

Events take place throughout the year and have included:

  • Film Nights – Children stay after school to watch a film in the hall ( each child pays  approx £2 which includes hot dog and drink)
  • Bags to School – A Bi-annual event.  School give out bags for unwanted clothes, etc.  We receive money for the bags per tonne
  • Christmas Cards and Tea Towels – The children design their own cards/tea towels which are available to order for Xmas.
  • Christmas Bingo – Bingo night with Christmas chocolate and biscuits as prizes. (donated by the children from a non uniform day)
  • Football Tournament- Annual event held in May – Marlfields host the Congleton Schools Football Completion.  We provide the refreshments stall
  • Easter Bingo – Bingo night with Easter chocolate and biscuits as prizes. (donated by the children from a non uniform day)
  • Summer Fair – Last years summer fair had an Alice in Wonderland Theme.
  • School Disco – Children stay after school and pay approx £2 for Disco

Did you know funds raised by us:

  • Contributed to the cost of all class trips reducing the cost for parents.
  • Donated £500 to cover the cost of books for the newly refurbished library
  • In previous years we have raised money to cover the cost of the transport to take the whole school to see pantomimes.
  • Provided a Christmas Present for EVERY child in school and Christmas crackers for the Christmas lunch.
  • Provided Year 6 leavers gifts
  • Bought chess sets for the chess club
  • Provided Easter Chocolate to each child
  • We are currently raising funds to help the school ensure that every child has access to an I PAD/tablet
  • We are also raising funds to help the school increase sports opportunities offered to the children

How Can I Help?

The Friends of Marlfields depends entirely on the support of all parents, staff and the community.  We gratefully appreciate any assistance with our events.  This can be anything from a little time spent helping out in the background, to coming along to the functions with friends and family or by joining the committee.

Share your fundraising ideas with us, we are always looking for new ideas and welcome any suggestions.

Donations play a very big role in our fundraising efforts.  Whether it be £1 for your child joining in on non-uniform days or prize donations for raffles and competitions.

We are always looking for donations for prizes – maybe you work for a company who would be kind enough to donate items for our tombolas and lucky dips.

We hold meetings roughly every 6 weeks sometimes at 2pm before the children finish school and sometimes in the evening, depending on what best suits our volunteers.  The meetings are held in school and are very informal, usually consisting of friendly chat over a cuppa and biscuits.  Many parents are nervous about getting involved but don’t be we are very friendly. It’s a good way to get to know other parents especially if you are new to the school.

We would love to welcome all parents new and old at our next meeting, see the schools newsletters for details.

Thank you
