Welcome to Class 2
Dear Parents,
We have a very, busy, but exciting term ahead of us. We do have end of Key Stage One assessments for Year two, at the end of May, and the Phonics Screening tests for children in Year One in June; however, these will only take up a short space of the curriculum and are nothing for the children to worry about.
We will start our day by hearing readers and short handwriting or book related tasks, followed by a phonics session.
Literacy
We will be looking at stories by significant authors, looking at how stories can be extended and characters developed. Within this unit of work and the books that we explore we will look at writing our own version of such a story, letter writing and writing newspaper reports and broadcasts.
We will go on to look at information texts related to our Science topic, which is Sound this half term, and other topic based work, (Weather around the World). We will also look at writing Non-Chronological Reports.
Spellings and homework will continue to be sent home each Friday and we will continue to hear each child read in class. Could homework and spellings please be completed by Wednesday as we will do a short spelling test each Wednesday morning. Reading is so important and supports their writing and spelling skills also, so please continue to listen to your child read regularly and we will continue with this in school during individual and group guided reading sessions.
Numeracy
Year One children will begin by focusing on weight and comparing weights of various objects using direct comparison. We will then progress through the Year one objectives for this term relating them to their emerging needs. Year two will begin by looking at Capacity, estimating and measuring amounts in millilitres and litres. They will then progress through the Year two objectives for this term relating to their emerging needs. Year 2 have been learning their 2’s, 3’s, 5’s and 10 times tables and should continue practising these.
R.E.
Class 2 will be looking at Christianity and the importance of the church as a place of worship to christians.

Topic
Our topic work will focus upon looking at information books and the internet to research the weather in different countries. We will also learn some French phrases about the weather and do some Art work related to the weather.
Science
In Science we will be exploring Sound, how and why we hear sounds.
PE
On Thursday afternoons, the children will continue to develop their throwing and catching skills with Mrs Jones, focusing also on teamwork, running and jumping and working on athletic activities. We will continue to have an indoor PE session in the village hall on a Friday morning, sometimes this will focus on dance and other weeks we will look at developing our travelling and balancing skills on large apparatus.
Thank you so much for your help and support .
Regards from Mrs Hough and Mrs Jones
