13th May 2013

What a busy week! Only two weeks until the whit holiday. We break up on Thursday 23rd May with pupils returning on Tuesday 4th June.

Mrs Claire Green

KS 2 test week

Year 6 pupils will be taking their end of Key Stage Two SATs test this week. The staff and I wish them all the best and feel sure they will achieve well making everyone proud of their results. Other classes are also involved in assessments this week and next.

OFSTED inspection

As you know school had its Ofsted inspection on Thursday and Friday of last week. The staff, governors and I would like to thank you for your messages of support throughout the inspection and for the honest views and concerns you shared with the Ofsted inspector. Ofsted require that various checks and validations take place before the report can be released and this will take about 3 weeks. Initial feedback indicates that it confirms the school's own evaluation of it's performance.  I would like to add my personal thanks to all the staff for their professional approach and commitment throughout a demanding and rigorous inspection.

Class 2 news!

After a very busy day of lesson observations and interviews on Friday, the governors and I have appointed Mrs Andrea Hough as class teacher for Class 2 from September 2013 onwards. I am sure the children will be pleased to hear the news and appreciate the sense of continuity this appointment gives them as are parents of children in this class.

Super Hero Friday

We have been invited to be part of Children’s Hospice week by the staff at Hope House and the final celebration of the week will be ‘Super Hero Friday!’ Hannah from the hospice came to speak to the children today and explain the work that they do to support children and families. She explained that the children can come dressed as any super hero, or as someone who is a superhero to them. This could be a family member or friend. They could also create their own super hero and design their own super outfit! In return, each child will be asked to donate £1 which will be passed to Hope House.

Friday looks like it is going to be a very colourful day - I look forward to seeing all their brilliant costumes and ideas.

CAPENHURST CE PRIMARY SCHOOL

NEWSLETTER
15th April 2013

Dear Parents/Carers,

Welcome Back! I hope that you have all had a restful and pleasant Easter break. The first newsletter for this new term is in a different format as there is a lot of information to share and many dates for your diary. The usual format will return next week.

There will be a sharing assembly this Friday at the usual time with a cake sale following it. This cake sale is to raise funds for the Year six leavers’ disco which will be held at the end of this term – more information will follow during the course of the coming weeks. Please bring your cakes to school on Friday morning and your purses to sharing assembly and at the end of the day!

New staff

The staff and I extend a warm welcome to Mrs Andrea Hough in class 2 .We hope you will be happy at Capenhurst and form friends that will stay with you for many years to come.

Lunches and Snacks – a reminder

Hot lunches are available to purchase on a daily basis, it is preferable that these are paid for in advance on a weekly, monthly or termly basis with cheques made payable to Cheshire West and Chester Council. To help with the administration and collection of monies for lunches and snacks, reminders will be sent home with the children on Fridays about any monies owing. If you are providing a lunch for your child from home, please make sure that they understand that it is not helpful when they change their mind and order a hot lunch once at school. It is hoped that this will minimise any confusion over missing monies and children ordering lunches in preference to a packed lunch. ALL money is to be sent to school in NAMED envelope.

If you choose to provide a snack from home, please ensure that it is a healthy snack such as fruit or a plain biscuit rather than a packet of crisps or chocolate. Fizzy drinks are not permitted in school.

We have a child in school with a nut allergy and as such I ask that you minimise the risk of a reaction for this child by choosing snacks and packed lunch contents appropriately. Please consider and avoid, where possible, items such as peanut butter, bags of nuts, health bars which contain nuts and some chocolate spreads. Thank you for your cooperation with this matter.

School uniform

At Capenhurst, we are very proud of our tradition of wearing our school uniform. Please support school in this matter by ensuring that all uniform is appropriate for school following the guidelines provided in the prospectus. School shoes are to be worn each day unless a letter about different footwear required for a trip is sent from school. All items of uniform and other belongings are to be clearly named to avoid confusion and aid the return of missing items.

Long hair is to be tied back when in school. This keeps hair out of your child’s face when they are working and it is essential for P.E. activities to avoid hair begin caught in equipment and apparatus.

P.E. kits are to be brought to school on Monday and remain in school until Friday to ensure that each child has a change of clothes in school should the usual days for P.E. need to change or extra sessions are planned.

The term ahead

There are many events planned for the coming term and these will be detailed in the weekly newsletters or through letters from the class teachers if they concern individual classes. This term will be a busy one with children preparing for end of year assessments. The children in Year Six will be undertaking their SATs during the week commencing 13th May 2013. Ensure your child is in school for these tests. Children in other year groups will be undertaking end of year assessments during the following week and/or June.

Rugby training sessions for classes 3 and 4 commence on Friday 19th April and will be delivered by a coach from Sale Sharks rugby Club as detailed in previous newsletters. Please make sure your child has their full outdoor PE kit in school for these sessions.

There is a list of dates of upcoming events at the end of this letter and a table showing the term dates for next school year 2013/14.

If you have any questions or queries about the information in this letter, please contact me at school.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs Claire Green
