At the Heath we offer students in Key Stage 3 the chance to experience; food, textiles, resistant materials, electronics and graphic products.
In years 7 & 8 students are taught on a carousel, which allows access to specialist rooms and expert staff.
At year 9 students experience 5 seperate strands of technology throughout the year, allowing them to make an informed choice when it comes to picking options for Key Stage 4 (yrs 10 & 11)
At Key Stage 4 students can choose from one of the following:- Electronic Products, Food, Graphic Products, Resistant Materials or Textiles.
All these courses are assessed in the same way: Coursework 60% Terminal Examination 40%. The coursework component is made up of a design folder worth 20% and a 3 dimensional product worth 40%. The completed products should represent 40 hours of good quality work.
Activities in all disciplines will include :- Design and Make assignments, focused practical tasks, where skills and knowledge are developed, revision and practical examinations.
Aims To give students the opportunity to work individually and as a member of a team, and to aquire skills and understanding in their chosen area of study. Students will use the design process to focus the skills, knowledge and understanding attained throughout their school career to produce a high quality artefact.
ICT is an integral part of all courses and students have the opportunity to use software packages such as Pro Desktop, 2D Design, PCB Design and make, PCB Wizard and Food for the PC
Throughout all GCSE courses, candidates, should address industrial and commercial practices, moral, social, cultural and environmental issues related to their work, as well as considering modern and smart materials.
Extra curricular work is encouraged by staff, and a number of clubs are running (STEM, Greenpower24, Arts and Crafts Club, Fashion show)
