Welcome to Year 2! I hope you have enjoyed your summer holidays and look forward to learning lots of exciting new things in Opal Class.  I look forward to teaching you in September!

Our Topic for the Autumn 1st half-term is called 'Are we nearly there yet?' During this topic we will be learning about holidays at the seaside.  We will be exploring where seaside resorts are in the UK, exploring what it is like at the seaside and how this is different to seasides in the past.  We will be learning about Forces during scientific enquiry and designing and making our own vehicles.  Alongside making vehichles we will start to think about journeys and a journey to the moon!
In literacy we will be looking at stories with familiar settings.

Important Reminders
Below is some important information which may be useful at the start of the Autumn term September 2010.
  • Reading both in school and at home is very important.  Please read with your child 3-4 times a week if possible.  Reading books and reading records need to be brought to school every day.  Children should also be encouraged to read a range of fiction books and pursue their interests in non-fiction books.
  • We visit Mrs Shaw in the school library every week where the children can loan a book of their choice.  These books are loaned for one week only and need to be returned to school the following week.
  • We have PE twice a week.  Please ensure that children have their full PE kit in school and labelled (including pumps!)
  • Please make sure homework is completed and handed in on time.
  • Keep checking our resource section in the top left corner for any aditional spellings or activities to do at home!
