Psychology is the science of human behaviour. Psychology is all about finding out how, when and why people carry out the behaviours they display.
At what Key Stages is Psychology delivered?
At Helsby High School Psychology is delivered at Key Stage 5 (A level). We offer the AQA A Psychology AS and A2 course.
What do we do in Psychology?
From September 08 the 'new and improved AQA A Psychology' AS course will cover the following areas:
Cognitive Psychology - how human memory works and how we can improve it
Developmental Psychology - how children develop socially and form attachments
Research Methods - how to carry out psychological research
Biological Psychology - how we respond to stress and how to manage stress
Social Pschology - how we are influenced by others and resist obedience
Psychopathology - How we define abnormality and how to treat abnormal behaviours

Who are the Helsby High School Psychologists?
Mrs Darlington is an Evolutionary/Biological Psychologist and is the Co-ordinator of the department. Mrs Darlington specialises in Educational Psychology.
Mrs Taylor is a Biological Psychologist specialising in Cognitive and Social Psychology.
Miss Wallace is a Humanistic/Constructivist Psychologist specialising in Social and Developmental Psychology. |
