AS Level

A level Music is a popular choice at Fallibroome and our uptake is well above the national average. We aim to encourage and inspire students to study music at greater depth through performance, composition, listening and analysis. Musicians are creative! We want to tap into students' creativity and equip them with the skills required to develop your musical knowledge and abilities. Many of our students study A Level Music in preparation for further musical study at conservatoire or university level. Other students take the course to supplement other subjects... and because they enjoy it... what better reason! Music supports a range of subjects and can lead to numerous related (or unrelated!) careers - it is well respected as an academic subject and is considered highly by universities.

The AS Music course 2012-2013 (Edexcel) provides a suitable transition from GCSE to A2. Through the study of instrumental and vocal set works, students are guided to extend their understanding of harmony and composition, explore a range of musical styles and composers and develop their performance skills.

As A level musicians students are expected to be fully involved in the extra-curricular life of the department. See our 'What's On Guide' (PDF) for more details.
