Meet our Eco-Warriors

What's happening this term?

March 18th - we had a visit from Bolton council waste officers. They did an assembly for the whole school. They even brought along their elephant mascot
March 2013- following our letter we sent to the council, a man from the council came to visit us to talk to us about the litter around our school. Also he said that we could have some 3 new bins.

February 2013 - we supported the Keep Britain Tidy - Big Litter Count by walking around our local community doing a litter survey. We wrote to the council with some results. We asked for bins to be put in the local community and one outside our school for our parents to use.

January 2013 - We supported the RSPB garden bird watch. We watched the birds for an hour and then submitted our reults. Here we are

We planted bulbs in our 'developing community garden'. We are hoping to have a sign and some stepping stones.
December -The Warriors have been very busy preparing the gardens for spring, they have weeded, planted bulbs and spread wood bark on the gardens. We planted winter flowers in our pots.

November - The Warriors and the FAIR TRADE steering group organised a baking event using FAIR TRADE ingredients. We had a competition for the biggest cookie and the best staff cake. Over £350 was raised. The money was spent on FAIR TRADE footballs and donated to CAFOD.
During 19th - 30th November the Eco Warriors will be busy with Switch off Fortnight. Many events have been arranged including a special KS1 &KS2 assembly

October - We have chosen to take part in the RSPB - Save the Rock-hopper Penguin. Each warrior has a box to take home and collect loose change in. We will be holding a penguin cake sale. This is the schools adopted animal for the school year 2012 - 2013.

  Eco- Wow  News

Solar Panels

In summer 2010 the Eco-warriors entered a competiton in the 'Daily Mail' to win solor panels for our school. We were really pleased when in Autumn 2010 we were informed that we had won the competition beating over 1000 other schools so we are really proud.

We had to have a surveyor inspect the school to see whether it was suitable, luckily it is so we are having them fitted on the south facing roof-tops of the school. They will provide enough energy to supply all Ks2 classes with electricity.

As well as recycling paper, growing our own fruit and veg and switching things off to save energy we have now become a battery recycling point so to all our parents, please don't throw your batteries away, bring them to school and recycle!

We have been collecting Morrisons Lets Grow vouchers. We collected 596 vouchers!!! well done to all who have helped.
