Responding to Incidents -
Cyberbullying

Scroll down for Hector's World and
       Grid Club.

You all have a right to be safe and a duty to act properly when using technology, and that includes internet sites, messaging, homepages and resource pages on the learning platform, social network sites (eg: Facebook, Bebo), chat rooms, and mobile phones.

Did you know that at the age of 10 you are legally responsible for your actions and you can be arrested and prosecuted by the police for your misdeeds if they break the law?

E-Safety is about safeguarding people.  As a school, as parents and carers, we can only deal with something and help you if we know about it.

Cyberbullying is about being hurtful to someone, or being hurt by someone, through using any form of ICT.  So if you see or receive anything which makes you feel uncomfortable or hurts you, your feelings in any way (on the computer or a mobile phone or any other piece of electronic equipment):

ØCross it off or turn it off immediately

ØTell an adult

To help you to keep safe, Oakefield will take action for:

Minor incidents – you will get an official warning, your parents will be informed, and the incident will be written down in your school file

·   downloading materials or pictures not relevant to your studies

·   misconduct with pupils’ log-ins, such as using someone else’s name and password

·   saving materials, tunes or pictures in your resource files which are not relevant to your studies

·   using your own mobile phones in school without staff permission, sending nuisance text messages or taking pictures with a mobile phone camera

·   writing comments about others which hurt their feelings

·   sending messages to others which hurt their feelings

·   printing inappropriate materials such as jokes or anything rude

Serious offences – in addition to the above in minor incidents, you will have all privileges removed and we will contact the necessary people, which might be the police

·   inappropriate writing, pictures, photos or tunes such as those which are very rude, racist, hateful, about drugs or about bomb-making

·   general nastiness, torment, harassment and threats to others

All incidents will be written down and a record kept by the E-Safety Co-ordinator (Sharon de Witt) and the Headteacher (Jan Smith).

LET’S DO OUR BIT TO BE SAFE AND ACT RESPONSIBLY WHEN USING ELECTRONIC TECHNOLOGY.
IF YOU DON’T LIKE SOMETHING,
CROSS IT OFF IMMEDIATELY

AND TELL AN ADULT.
