Irby Primary

Irby Primary School > Year 6
Welcome to Year 6.

This year our teachers will be Miss Finn, Mrs Burden and Mrs Baker.

We are very excited to be the oldest in school and are looking forward to our new roles as school prefects. We earn our prefect privileges by moving up the football pitch and through the football league divisions. When we reach the super heights of the 'Premier League' we will gain rewards such as computer time.

In our roles as prefects we help the younger classes during assembly time, rainy day playtimes and whole-school events, such as World Cup Day.
At the end of Year 5 we voted for our new Head Boy and Head Girl. Here is who we voted for:

Head Boy:
Head Girl:
Deputy Head Boy:

Useful Information:
  • Homework will be given out in the form of a topic. This will be given every 2-3 weeks and will be based on work completed in the classroom in a range of subjects from science to history.
  • Spellings will given out each half term and they will be tested on a Friday.
  • Reading records will be collected on Wednesday and returned to the children on Thursday. The children need to record their independent reading in this log and complete one of the reading tasks from the front of their book.
  • PE kits must be in school every day. Please ensure that you bring in a warm tracksuit during the winter months.
  • In Maths we will be practising our times table and completing our times table activities on a Friday.

Subject Information

Literacy: Over the next few weeks we will be covering a range of genres and reading materials so the children will be very busy learning lots of exciting new reading and writing tools in preparation for their assessments in May.

Topic: Our topic this term is America and we have already enjoyed linking our ICT, Topic and Literacy together when learning about Martin Luther King Jr.

PE: This term we are learning how to jive. At the moment, Miss Finn is a little more enthusiastic about this than the children.
