Welcome to Hermitage Literacy Page!
Our vision for literacy is:
· To engender a life-long love of language and communication by learning about literacy skills through the use of quality children’s text and books that interest, inspire and excite readers.
Long Term Aims:
· For all children to look forward to weekly ‘Book Club’ sessions so that they become confident readers who love the world of books!
· For our children to be able to communicate meaning through the spoken and written word with confidence and the ability to sustain a piece of work.
Please read on to find out about some of the things we do in Literacy at Hermitage Primary...
Each classroom displays a variety of labels, captions, visual aids, Interactive questions and prompts to help with literacy teaching and learning.
Our children have literacy targets so that they know how to improve their literacy work.
We choose good quality children's books to plan many of the literacy units of work.
Children write for a variety of purposes and audiences. Work for literacy and for cross curricular writing is displayed with pride throughout the school.
Our Children enjoy their weekly 'book club' sessions. Here are some of the some of the things they say about reading at Hermitage School:
"We make entries about our reading and books we have read in our Reading Journals." (KS2)
"Our teachers talk to us about our reading activities."
"We read exciting books with good pictures to help us to tell stories."
My teacher thinks up lots of exciting things to do about the books we read. It's good fun!"
"I'm just a book worm - I love to be reading a good book where I get to know all the characters."
"We enjoy visiting the school library each week where we choose and exchange books."
Along with our teacher, we choose a class book that is serialised 3 times a week.
Our teacher likes to leave us on a ‘cliff-hanger’!
