Ashdene's School Nutrition Action Group (SNAG)

A SNAG is a school-based alliance in which teaching staff, pupils and caterers, supported, where appropriate, by health and education professionals and the local community, work together to review and improve the school food service and adopt a truly whole school approach to food education and culture. 


Improvements that the Ashdene SNAG has introduced:

Improvements in quality of ingredients 
Introduction of salad bar
Removal of airline trays for Junior children and introduction of crockery
Re-branding of dining room as The Yum Yum Tree with design input from children
New tables to allow more sociable dining experience
Water jugs on tables
Introduction of food-growing activities across the curriculum
After-school cookery club
Parent lunch days 
Annual school picnic

Future developments
Promotion of healthy packed lunches
Further improvements to dining room
Visit to local organic farm
Fruit supplier to visit for tasting session
Local sourcing
Food education
