School cook
We welcome our new cook, Mrs Sarah Cadman, to school today and look forward to her becoming one of our team. She visited school for a few days before the half term break to meet the children and worked alongside Mrs Harrington so that she became familiar with the kitchen and the routines of lunch at Capenhurst. I am sure she will settle in quickly and the children and staff will make her feel very welcome.
Thank you to everyone who was able to celebrate Mrs Harrington’s last day a very special one. She had a lovely day and appreciated all your kind words, cards and gifts.
We are starting this term on WEEK 2 on the rolling 4 week menu
School uniform
At Capenhurst we are very proud of our tradition of wearing a school uniform. A reminder that sensible footwear needs to be worn to school with shoes being black in colour and suitable for wearing around school and playing outside. If for some reason your child cannot wear school shoes (could be due to damaged footwear or an injury to their foot), then a letter explaining this should be sent to school. School shoes should then be worn as soon as is practicable.
All uniform and PE kits need to be named in a permanent manner to aid their swift return when misplaced.
Long hair to be tied back for school, it helps your child to concentrate if their hair is not in their eyes and minimises the risk of head lice transferring from head to head. Hair is to be tied back for all PE activities.
Fundraising appeal
Naomi Bowden (Phoebe’s mum, Phoebe is in class 1) will be running the Chester half marathon in May this year to raise funds for the Anya Bentham Appeal. Anya is a 2 year little girl from Chester who is very poorly and funds are need for Neuroblastoma treatment. If you would like to make a donation please do so either via the internet (use the ’just giving’ website under Lomax Bowden) or cash donations can be given directly to Naomi and she will add them to the appeal. If you are unsure then send your donation to school in a named envelope and we will pass them onto Naomi for you. Thank you.

Sickness and Diarrhoea
Following a bout of sickness or diarrhoea, the advice is that your child should be clear of both for a period of 48 hours before returning to school. I appreciate that this can cause difficulties with child care but your co-operation with this advice would help to prevent the potential spread of the sickness to other children.
Mrs Harrington
Thank you to those families who have sent in contributions towards Mrs Harrington’s retirement gift. If you would like to add to the pot, please send your contribution to school in a named envelope. We will be celebrating with Mrs Harrington on Friday 15th February starting with a party lunch, if your child would like to join in the cost is £2.1, please put cash or cheque made payable to CWAC in a marked envelope; children are invited to wear party clothes for the day; non-uniform for those who don’t feel comfortable in ‘party’ clothes. CAPENHURST C.E. PRIMARY SCHOOL
7th January 2013
Dear Parents/Carers,
Happy New Year! I hope that you have all had a restful and pleasant Christmas break. The first newsletter for this new term is in a different format as there is a lot of information to share and many dates for your diary. The usual format will return next week.
There will be a sharing assembly this Friday at the usual time with a cake sale following it. Please bring your cakes to school on Friday morning and your purses to sharing assembly at the end of the day!
New staff
The staff and I extend a warm welcome to Miss Heather Ledsham class teacher and Mrs Claire Gregory TA in class 1. We hope you will be happy at Capenhurst and form friends that will stay with you for many years to come.
Lunches and Snacks
Hot lunches are available to purchase on a daily basis, it is preferable that these are paid for in advance on a weekly, monthly or termly basis with cheques made payable to Cheshire West and Chester Council. To help with the administration and collection of monies for lunches and snacks, reminders will be sent home with the children on Monday about any monies owing from the previous week. If you are providing a lunch for your child from home, please make sure that they understand that it is not helpful when they change their mind and order a hot lunch once at school. It is hoped that this will minimise any confusion over missing monies and children ordering lunches in preference to a packed lunch. ALL money is to be sent to school in a NAMED envelope.
If you choose to provide a snack from home, please ensure that it is a healthy snack such as fruit or a plain biscuit rather than a packet of crisps or chocolate. Fizzy drinks are not permitted in school.
We have a child in school with a nut allergy and as such I ask that you minimise the risk of a reaction for this child by choosing snacks and packed lunch contents appropriately. Please consider and avoid, where possible, items such as peanut butter, bags of nuts, health bars which contain nuts and some chocolate spreads. Thank you for your co-operation with this matter.
School uniform
At Capenhurst, we are very proud of the tradition of wearing our school uniform. Please support school in this matter by ensuring that all uniform is appropriate for school following the guidelines provided in the prospectus. School shoes, not trainers, are to be worn each day. All items of uniform and other belongings are to be clearly named to avoid confusion and aid the return of missing items.
Long hair is to be tied back when in school. This keeps hair out of your child’s face when they are working and it is essential for P.E. activities to avoid hair begin caught in equipment and apparatus.
P.E. kits are to be brought to school on Monday and remain in school until Friday to ensure that each child has a change of clothes in school should the usual days for P.E. need to change or extra sessions are planned.
Staff news
After 13 years at Capenhurst, Mrs Harrington has decided to retire. This has been a difficult decision for Mrs Harrington to make as she has been very happy at school and has enjoyed preparing delicious meals for the children. It is sad news for school as she is valued member of staff who looks after everyone and makes sure no-one goes hungry. Her last day will be Friday 15th February. School is currently making plans to ensure we say ‘goodbye’ to Mrs Harrington in style! I will keep you informed of the arrangements. The staff, children and I are very sorry to see her go and wish her a long, healthy and happy retirement.
If you have any questions or queries about the information in this letter, please contact me at school.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs Claire Green
