Blackburn with Darwen School and Learning Development > School Improvement > NQT Programme 2011-2012

For NQT’s taking up their first teaching post in Blackburn with Darwen we have a highly rated and well-planned induction programme. It is designed to offer you the advice, guidance, support and resources necessary to enable you to demonstrate that you have achieved the high induction standards required by the end of your first year in teaching. Whichever school you are appointed to in the borough, your colleagues will help you make the best possible use of your skills and experience. You will have the opportunity to consolidate your strengths whilst at the same time being supported in the areas identified for further development.

In addition to the support offered to you by your school colleagues, the LA offers a very comprehensive package of support for newly qualified teachers. This incorporates a wide range of courses and a netbook for use during your employment in schools. There is also an opportunity to participate in a residential course for newly qualified teachers, which looks at specific professional issues and gives you the opportunity to meet and socialise with colleagues who are at the start of their teaching career. To facilitate networking, the LA arranges termly meetings for newly qualified teachers, allowing issues of particular concern and interest to NQT’s to be discussed.

The Link Adviser for NQT's is Sheila Ratcliffe who can be contacted on 01254 666504 or

Finally, every school has a school improvement officer who works in partnership with the school, ensuring that every newly qualified teacher is well supported and is given the opportunity to develop his/her professional skills.
