In keystage 3, pupils use textbooks from the Exploring Maths series and the scheme of work follows these texts.
Pupils are assessed at regular intervals. The tests are usually held during the last week of each half term and cover the previous half terms work (or as indicated by their teacher).
In the summer term these tests are replaced by an end of year test.
Years 7 & 8 students sit their test in June. This will be at a level appropriate for their ability.
Year 9 students will sit their examination in May and this will be at an appropriate level for their ability.
Key Stage 3
In Keystage 4 all Bands now follow the OCR linear syllabus B J567.
Pupils sit 2 papers in June of Year 11. There are no modular examinations and no controlled assessment.
Some students in Band 1 also follow either the AQA Statistics 4312 GCSE or the OCR Free-Standing Maths Qualification: Foundations of Advanced Maths 6989. Both are assessed in June of Year 11 and the Statistics course has a controlled assessment element worth 25% of the overall grade.
Key Stage 4
In the sixth form, we follow the AQA Mathematics AS and A2.
Pupils opt for either Mathematics (with Statistics), Mathematics (with Mechanics) or Mathematics and Further Mathematics (which includes both Statistics and Mechanics).
For AS level, pupils do Pure Core 1 & 2 and Decision 1. In addition, those doing Maths & Further Maths do Further Pure 1, Mechanics 1 and Mechanics 3.
For A2 level, pupils do Pure Core 3 & 4 and either Statistics 1 or Mechanics 1. Those doing Further Maths do one of the Further Pure modules and have a choice for their remaining two modules.
