Edexcel Level 2 BTEC First in Engineering

 

The engineering sector continues to suffer from a skills gap and needs to keep up with rapidly developing technologies. New entrants to the engineering sector need to build the underpinning knowledge and specific skills needed to meet the needs of modern engineering industries

 

Course content

As part of your studies you will follow 5 units through a series of written and practical tasks. You will work independently and within a small team to produce practical artefacts using a variety of workshop based production methods.

Working Practices in Engineering

Using and Interpreting Engineering Information

Preparing and Controlling Engineering Manufacturing Operations

Selecting Engineering Materials

Selecting and Using Secondary Machining Techniques to Remove Material

 

 

Assessment

 

There is no formal examination and all assessment is done through coursework practical and portfolio evidence.  This is a double award and there are three levels of assessment

Pass, Merit and Distinction

 

Work related learning

 

You will be involved in industrial visits, seminars by guest speakers and the use of CD ROMs’ and videos to increase the understanding of engineering in the work place. Many of your briefs and specifications will be provided by local industry and you will feed back to engineers regularly.

 

The Edexcel Level 2 BTEC First in Engineering offers several progressions routs, for example

  • Apprenticeships and advanced apprenticeships.
  • A-levels and qualifications such s ONC and HND and Foundation Degrees.
