Super Science Taster for Year 5! - Miss Gardiner & Eryn

Super Science Taster for Year 5!

This term, Year 5 went to Hollingworth Academy for a Science taster lesson. We used Bunsen burners to burn food such as raisins, crisps and different types of pasta. In pairs, we tried to figure out which types of food rise the most in temperature. We also took notes in a booklet about the different types of food and why some foods temperatures rise quicker than others.

We go together - another hit for Glee Club!
Glee Club made us very proud again this week as they performed yet another outstanding routine at Rochdale Town Hall. They took part in the 'Whole Class Performance' section of the Rochdale Music Festival on Monday 20th March. Due to the hectic rehearsal schedule for Young Voices there was very little time to put together a new routine but with the amazing effort and dedication from all staff and children involved- a new routine was ready and polished for the festival.
Glee Club sang, acted and danced to 'We go together' from the musical 'Grease'. Mrs Sykes and Miss Gardiner put together the routine. The whole of Glee Club worked extremely hard to perfect the routine and the finished product wowed us all!
The children performed brilliantly at the Town Hall and the audience and judges loved it.
The children will perform this routine again at the end of year Talent show!

A Very Special Donation - Miss Gardiner

On Monday 25th January there was a very special whole school assembly in which a defibrillator was presented to school by Sue Ridgard of Rochdale Heartbeat. Rochdale Heartbeat, is a locally based charity which supports heart patients and their families in Rochdale and the surrounding areas. It is run entirely by volunteers who have suffered from heart problems. During our 2015 Harvest Appeal, children and parents of Newhey CP School kindly donated money to Rochdale Heartbeat as well as giving food to Rochdale Foodbank. The school is extremely grateful to Rochdale Heartbeat for their generous donation of the defibrillator although it is a gift we hope never to use!

On Thursday 16th March, Miss Gardiner took four exceptionally talented performers to Rochdale Town Hall to take part in the Rochdale Music Festival.
The children were entered into the 'Musical Theatre' category and performed a medley of songs from from our Christmas Concert 'Wizard of Oz'.
The children worked very hard to prepare for this event- trying to remember song words and dance routines from last year. This hard work was worth it as the performance was amazing and was highly praised by the judges!

School Council achieves 'Platinum' status! - Miss Gardiner

Our excellent School Council members have been working very hard this year to work towards achieving the 'Effective School Council Status' - Platinum level!
Mrs Sykes and the council members have been busy collecting evidence to showcase all of their hard work.
We are thrilled that the assessment went well and we have now achieved the Platinum Level award!
Well done to all of the School Council members!
