Amazing Ski Trip 2010 - Vars, France
This year’s ski trip to Vars turned out to be one full of excitement and incident. The trip began well with a delayed departure from Manchester into Grenoble. Heavy snow over the day forced the closure of the airport therefore a one hour flight turned out to be six.
After a late night the group woke up to heavy snow and low visibility on the mountain. This didn’t stop us though as groups were organised and the start of six days skiing began. Groups were organised into experience and the skiing conditions were excellent. After the first day there were no reported injuries and the group settled in to a well earned rest.
After an overcast first day the next few days saw glorious sunshine and some of the best skiing conditions seen in Vars for some time. All pistes were open and the snow conditions were excellent. All groups made extremely good progress on the slopes and by the end of the second day all groups were attempting green and blue slopes. A few falls couldn’t prevent the group from having an amazing time and really developing a great team spirit.
Over the course of the week all groups made brilliant progress. The advanced group were keen to improved their freestyle skills and were attempting off piste skiing and tackling border cross runs. The intermediate groups easily conquered some tough red runs throughout the week, while the beginners group made rapid progress and by the end of the week were tackling hard blue runs.
As well as the skiing there was much more on offer as well to keep the group entertained in the evening. There were some shapes being thrown at the disco and bum boarding allowed some novel ways of getting down the slope.
It is with great pleasure I can tell you that everyone made it back in one piece. There were no reported major injuries on the trip and all 56 people made it back safe.
Thank you to all the pupils who made the trip such an enjoyable one. Your behaviour was excellent and the togetherness in the group allowed for much banter and enjoyment.
A quick mention must go to the Year 10 GCSE pupils who took their GCSE assessment while on the slopes. All 7 pupils completed the course with 9s out of 10 so a big congratulations to those pupils.
A great trip and here's hoping to another successful one in 2011 to Les Deux Alpes, France.
