MEET THE ENTERPRISES 2009 - 2010 TEAMS
The Bank My name is Kelly-Anne Rowland and I am the Bank manager. My team and I work along side Lloyds TSB to promote “Saving for the Future” within King’s Grove. We transfer money directly into student’s bank accounts and we are also trained to open bank accounts. Part of our job is also to check the takings daily for the school General Store.
We have all been trained by Lloyds TSB staff and have also visited the branch in Crewe. It's great to have a really responsible job as part of the enterprises, and will give us something great to put on our CV when we leave King’s Grove.
Events and Promotions Hi, my name is Emily Jenkins. My role in the King’s Grove Enterprises is Events and Promotions Manager. It is my job to promote anything that teachers and groups of pupils want promoting, such as upcoming events. I have a team that helps me.
When I first got the role as Manager, I wasn’t entirely sure what experiences I would have. Now, I have had quite a few experiences, and I can safely say that I have thoroughly enjoyed all of them, and I’m really glad I applied for this role. An example of an event that we promoted was last year’s ‘fun run’. My team helped Mrs. Jones, and other members of staff help plan, and run the day. One of the challenging aspects of it was the fact that we had never had one before, and we had to completely plan it all, without knowing how the day would go. We are now busy helping the School Council promote Fund Raising ideas in the school.
Fairtrade Fellowship I am Ryan Sumnall and I am Student Director of the Fairtrade Fellowship. I am going to tell you about the FairTrade Snack Shack.
As part of the enterprises, The Fairtrade Fellowship run the Snack Shack. A number of pupils work in the shop, selling Fairtrade snacks, and One Water products. We are based on the patio and we sell very well out there. It is good to have a permanent base now. We have to do all the sales, and ordering stock, and the finances. The Fairtrade Snack Shack runs very well, by pupils who are part of the Fairtrade Fellowship in school – anyone can become a member!
General Store
I am Brad Preston and I am the Manager of the General Store. We have a team of 10 staff from years 9 and 10 who run the school shop. We link with Ryman the stationers, and they help and support us. Their staff mentor us, and help our team run the shop as smoothly as possible. The General Store is open Monday – Friday 12.35-1.10pm. In store you will find everything you need for School, including Ringbinders, Pens, Notebooks and much more! Why not come and try our delicious Milkshakes and come and see all the exciting products we have on offer.
We really enjoy running the shop – the decisions are all ours, and we are very independent. It is a great experience!
Travel Centre
Hi, I am Adrian Mo, and I am the Manager of the Kings Grove Travel Centre.
At the travel centre, we have a team of pupils who book trips out, like any other travel centre would. We can do everything a normal travel centre does, which includes travel abroad. Most of the time, we help teachers book travel for school trips. We book coaches and train tickets.
The travel centre is partnered with the Dane Bank Travel Centre at South Cheshire College, and their team is there to support us. Because we are partnered with Dane Bank, we are also recognised by ABTA -The Travel Association.
As the Manager of the Kings Grove Travel Centre, I am responsible to make sure all the team work well together and that everyone is happy, that all enquiries from people are quoted and booked, so that nothing is misplaced or goes wrong!
Our travel centre is open every Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout lunchtimes.
Enterprising Training
In January, the pupil managers of all our Enterprises met with a company called KPI. KPI specialises in recruitment for other companies. We had a training session with them about recruitment and selection – and how to get it right! The reason behind this training was to develop us as managers, and our understanding of the recruitment process. It will also help us when we begin to recruit pupils to work in the enterprises next year. So, ANY Year 8 or 9 pupils who may want to work in the school shop, bank travel centre, Fairtrade tuck shop, OR for the events and promotions team, look out for recruitment details after Easter!
