Welcome to the Malbank School and Sixth Form College Connected Learning Community
Malbank School and Sixth Form College would like to welcome you all, parents and pupils alike to our Virtual Learning Platform which runs alongside our established school site http://www.malbank.cheshire.sch.uk

Please see our 1st Parent / Carer Newsletter published May 2010.

It is our hope that this portal will allow students greater access to digital resources which will in turn enhance their learning experience and increase their level of attainment. Digital resources can be documents, sound files, presentations, videos and images.Resources can by made available to support students learning both during and outside school. Students can also share their work with their teacher or fellow students for feedback. The benefit of having a portal such as this is that students can access these online resources both in school and at home.

Over time the number of departments using this resource will increase to provide eLearning throughout the curriculum and ensure that all age groups benefit from the use of this platform.

Please be aware that a lot of the content on this site is viewable to those with a log in only. Pupils at the school should know their own log in details.

What do I do next?

Keep your own details safe. NEVER tell anyone your password. Don't let anyone log in as you!

What is a VLE?

A virtual learning environment is essentially a web site (or equivalent networked learning structure) that provides a number of basic functions deemed valuable in the learning process. Normally, a set of tools and navigation aids are provided, with the aim of placing any online educational materials into a clear, organised structure. Such an "environment" will provide students with easy access to course documents, lecture notes, online courseware, questionnaires and communication tools.

Benefits of a VLE

A summary of the key benefits of a VLE according to the BECTA document “What the research says about Virtual Learning Environments” are:

  • Enhanced teaching and learning
  • Flexible access for students
  • Potential to extend the reach of education beyond the classroom
  • Greater parent Involvement
