On the last day of Autumn Term the Sixth Form took part in their traditional Theme Day, dressing up in fancy dress and collecting for charity. Well done to all those who made an excellent effort to take part and, of course, to those who contributed to the fund raising.
Well Done Everybody! |

Battlefields Visit 2009
The History Department again took 40 Year 10/11 pupils to visit the WWI Battlefields in Belgiumand France. Two Whitbypupils also represented the school by leading the memorial ceremony at the Menin Gate. This is the third time the school has had this honour. Click here to visit the extensive WhitbyBattlefields site which contains plenty of learning materials about the areas visited, as well as photographs of the trip. We also spent time tracing men off the Ellesmere Port War Memorial, and ancestors of pupils on the trip. |

Ellesmere Port War Memorial Project
This web site, run by The Whitby High School History Department, is an ongoing research project. Can you help? Do you know if you are descended from soldiers on the WWI War Memorial? Do you have any family history research that we can add to our Project? Photographs, census records, addresses, brief family trees etc, will help to expand the record. Year 9 students are currently working on this. We visited the battlefields again in March 2009 - where for the third time we led the remembrance service at the Menin Gate in Ypres, Belgium, and laid a poppy wreath in memory of the local men who died (and those who returned) during the First World War. We intend to eventually extend our researches to WWII and later conflicts. See here also to read about our successful campaign to have a memorial sign erected in the town. |
