Welcome to Whitegate Church of England Primary School.
We are in the process of developing our Learning Platform.
Its aims will be to:
- Develop our Online Learning Community
- Update our School Web Site
- Provide up to date information about our school
Please note that some areas of our site do not have public access.
Our school motto is 'Enjoy Achieving Together', I hope you will join us on our journey.
Whitegate Church of England Primary School is set in the picturesque Cheshire countryside. It is situated between the towns of Northwich and Winsford, both of which have historical links with the Cheshire Salt Industry.
As a Primary School our age range of pupils is 5 -11, pupils are taught in vertically grouped classes. The number of pupils taught at school is currently 123.
Summer 2010
Artsmark Gold
We received confirmation earlier this term that our Artsmark application was successful and that Arts Council England have awarded our school Artsmark Gold in recognition of our commitment to the arts.
'An Artsmark award shows how much a school cares about the arts in edudcation. It raises the profile of the school and reassures parents and carers that arts provision is a priority. It also rewards teachers and pupils for their efforts, helping to inspire all concerned to reach for greater heights'.
The Artsmark Gold Award is the highest level possible to achieve.
Whitegate Village Fair
On Saturday 15th May the Whitegate Village Fair was held on Church Green, Whitegate. A variety of stalls were run by local volunteers.
It is St. Mary's Church major fundraising event and over £5000 was raised this year. One of the highlights of the Village Fair is the traditional May Pole Dancing performed by our pupils.
The May Fair King and May Queen were also crowned.
Below are photographs of some of our pupils May Pole Dancing.
Year Five and Six pupils perform one of their dances.
Year Three and Four pupils dancing.
Foundation Stage pupils dancing around the small May Pole.
Key Stage One Pupils dancing around the large May Pole.
Rhino Mania
Our school has been involved in the Rhino Mania Project which will see a trail of decorated Rhinos throughout Chester over the summer months.
The decoration of the Whitegate Rhino is a result of a collaberative effort drawing on ideas from pupils of all ages throughout the school. Many pupils submitted their designs and we chose designs that embody our school ethos of 'Enjoy Achieving Together'.
The design shows many elements of wider learning experiences for example recent work on studying Africa.
It shows our commitment to engaging children's learning within a broad and balanced curriculum and one which values the arts highly.
Spring 2010
Spring term opened with some of the heaviest snowfall for many years.

A photograph of our school taken on Tuesday 5th January 2010.
Below is St. Mary's Church, Whitegate.

Despite the adverse weather this January. School was closed for only one day. We have seen a focus for pupils and staff on dance and drama. Brian McCann from Active Drama UK spent a day teaching drama to the children and the staff held an Inset session after school to discuss his work and share ideas on developing drama at school.
On Monday 8th February Claire Reynolds from Cheshire Dance will be teaching dance and on Wednesday 10th February everyone will have the chance to learn Line Dancing taught by Amanda Clarke.
On Sunday 30th January over thirty Key Stage 2 pupils went to a Cheshire Jets Match Day Basketball Clinic at Northgate Arena. The clinic was followed by 'Jets' V London Leopards cup match, which was won easily by the 'Jets'. Everyone had an enjoyable time.
The Whitegate School Art Exhibition
Pupils are currently working on their own paintings which will be framed and displayed at the exhibition on Wednesday 10th March.
I am delighted to inform you that the Art Exhibition was a great success.
World Book Day
Thursday 4th March 2010
The whole school focus for World Book Day was 'The Mad Hatters Tea Party'. There was a competition to design a hat, a parade of hats was held in the playground. The best boy and girl winners were chosen.
Our writing focus during this week was based on Lewis Carroll and 'The Mad Hatters Tea Party'.
Did you know that mercury was used in the making of hats?
Fair Trade Week 2010
All of the pupils have been learning all about tea, where it comes from, its history and its production. A Tea Party was held on Thursday 11th March to which parents and governors were invited. They drank 'Fairtrade' tea and cakes. Whilst some of the pupils shared what they had found out about tea.
At the end our visitors were asked to complete a quiz drawn up by the pupils on tea.
Autumn 2009
Before the Christmas holidays saw the publication of 2009 Key Stage 2 SAT's, we achieved 100% L4+ in English, Math's and Science. We are rightly very proud of our pupils achievements this year. It's a testament to their hard work and that of our teachers and staff.
The launch of the Great Whitegate Cookbook was very successful - see Friends of Whitegate School page for more details.
Key Stage 1 pupils had the opportunity to attend Tri Golf and Gymnastic sessions last term. Judo coaching again proved popular with our Key Stage 2 pupils.
Cheshire Jets, the professional basketball team based in Chester, have visited with their 'Hoops for Health' programme, Key Stage 2 pupils were taught about healthy eating and the dangers of smoking, as well as some basketball skills. Our Year 5 & 6 pupils will have more basketball coaching over the next few weeks.
P.C. Woodward our School's Police Liasion Officer talked about 'Stranger Danger', Cyber safety with the Year 5's and Drug Awareness with the Year 6's.
