 6th Sunday Ordinary Time
Luke 6:17.20-26

LENT IS COMING - As you know, we will celebrate Ash Wednesday during half term. Don’t miss the opportunity to start Lent off well and wear your Ashes with pride.

As ever, we are sending home a ‘Calendar for Lent’. We hope this will help you mark the journey through this season of prayer, fasting and almsgiving. You will also receive a sponsor form for our CAFOD fundraising. It is some time since we have used the ‘sponsor’ method. Please follow the instructions carefully, particularly concerning GIFT AID.

OUR NEW BISHOP - Monsignor Mark Davies will be ordained for the Diocese of Shrewsbury by Bishop Brian on February 22nd. In keeping with church tradition we will make a Novena  prayer for Mark in the nine days prior to his ordination. The prayer is issued this evening and I encourage you to make it part of your family prayer next week. On the reverse is a prayer for the day of ordination too.

In this Year for Priests we pray to St John Vianney for all members of the clergy.

HEALTHY SCHOOLS STATUS – We are currently reviewing our local area status and aiming to apply for National Accreditation. In the past our daily use of water bottles, commitment to healthy food options and opportunities for play have helped us. Please consider how you and your child can show continued support for healthy options.

A good start might be a review of playtime snacks. Do we really need to send our children to school with crisps and chocolate bars?

Y6 offer their top five alternatives to crisps and chocolate:

1.        Fruit & Veg – be creative

2.       Go Ahead bars and the like

3.       Bread sticks & crackers

4.       Nuts & seeds

5.      Visit the Snack Bar

PTA NEWS  School Disco Wear Something Red

We look forward to seeing everyone at the School Disco tonight – hope the adults can stay and enjoy a drink and catch up in the bar area too!

For those who have very kindly volunteered to help out, please could you arrive at around 5:45 pm.  We could still use one to two more volunteers, so please just turn up if you can help – even if it’s for just an hour.  We’d really appreciate it!

Supporting our Ex-Pupils

A local group, which includes a number of ex St Benedict’s pupils, is currently raising money to help take the elderly and disabled on a Pilgrimage to Lourdes later this year.  The group will look after the visitors for their entire stay - taking them to mass, providing entertainment and generally being a friend.  The fundraisers include a number of talented musicians and an able DJ!  The PTA is supporting their efforts by employing the group to provide our disco tonight, rather than the usual DJ.  We’ll also look for further opportunities to put business their way whenever we can, rather than paying an outside organisation.   I’m sure you’ll agree it’s great that we can use our event schedule to support such a worthy commitment.

HAITI

We raised the sum of £499.79 for the earthquake appeal which we have sent off to CAFOD today.
