Pancake Breakfast for all our school community 12th February 2013

Do come and join in as the PA work so hard and this is a wonderful breakfast and there is always a great sense of community during this event!  You get a chance to see Mrs Pearson in the kitchen!!

World book day - 7th March 2013

An exciting opportunity to push the love of reading whilst having fun at the same time!!  We are encouraging the children to dress up as kings, queens, princes or princesses, past and present, fact or fiction on this day.  If you would like to send donations then this would go to our Red nose day fund.  If parents would like to join in and dress up on World book day and carry out some reading activities with the children, then please do let us know via the teacher or office.

Parent Council Meeting 12th March 2013 6pm

If you have anything that you are worried about or any brilliant ideas and you don't want to approach the school directly, speak to Jill Roberts or any other Parent Council member (pictures in the board at the front gate).  We want to work in partnership with our parents to make their time and their child's time the best it can possibly be - if we can help, we will and the parent council are very good at putting across information.

School disco and non-uniform day for Red Nose Day 12th March 2013

Money raised from the non-uniform will go towards Red Nose Day and we are going to have a Dance-a-thon day as children are in their own clothes, to raise money for Red Nose Day - this will be our day combining the non-uniform and dance activities and this will lead into the disco for those who want it after school (PA to send out times and details of disco).  The DJ used for the disco is very exciting and you may even see some of the staff showing some of their dance moves!! (this replaces the pre-advertised non-uniform 22/3/13 which has been cancelled as too close together).

Attendance

Please read, if not already, attendance matters on the VLE - every minute of your child's education counts.  Holiday request forms will be available on the VLE soon.  Please only use these if absolutely necessary, as it is so important for the children to access all lessons in term time.

E-safety

This is taught in ICT lessons, re-emphasisied in PSHE and assembly times and on the VLE.  Please look at/google the Thinkyouknow website with your child, so that you as parents are aware of current dangers.

Labelling clothing

Please label all your child's belongings.  If items are clearly labelled and turn up around school, it is very easy for us to send them directly to your child, otherwise they get put into the school office for a week and then placed into bin bags in the PE store cupboard.

Bonfire night success - 05 November 2012 - Mrs Pearson

(Sorry this didn't go on on Sunday but it was my son's birthday and this is my first chance today)

What a fantastic event, so well organised and so much time and effort put in by so many.  The organisation of this event was brilliant and enjoyed by so many in the community - well done to all.  A special thanks to Andy Nolan who I believe was there all Saturday and Sunday setting up and clearing up the bonfire and fireworks to ensure safety!  Many thanks to all the following and apologies if I have missed anyone out - you are all wonderful!
Thanks to Andy Nolan, Mark Bentley and Al Price who all helped with the bonfire and fireworks both days and to Mark Hill and Neil Park who helped with the fireworks.  Many thanks too to the bonfire team, Eif Roberts, Su Whittle, Karl Price (and electrics) Gary Prance, Ed Smith, Rob Woodward-Booth, Martin Bell and Graham Whithe.  To Janet Abraham for organising a raffle, to Claire Newman, Mike Newman and grandad Newman and Claire Wilde for taking charge of the tuck shop.  To Ailsa Griffin for the glow sticks and Alex Devlin for the donuts and toffee apples.  Thanks to Jenny Hammond-Langley and Liz Oakes for the gate and for Pat Oakes in the kitchen assisted brilliantly by Trish Gornall, Julia Langford, Jill Roberts, Sharon Jones, Holly Green, Jenny Martin, Louise Amir, Louise Whittle, Lisa Roberts, Alison Roberts, Caro Szabo and Nana Hammond-Langley and for the fire brigade that came to put the fire out!  Thank you clear up team of men and Caro Szabo for doing an excellent job and for Les Minton our caretaker helping out and Mrs Bearsley on the gate.  If I have missed you off, thank you.

What a great team of people - well done Trish Gornall, Tracy Nolan, Andy Nolan, Alison Roberts and Jenny Hammond-Langley as the main organisers from start to finish - we cannot thank you enough on behalf of the school and children for your dedication and commitment.

Newsletter from school and PA - 30 October 2012 - Mrs Pearson

Bonfire Night - 3rd November at 5.30pm

This is a fantastic night for all the family at a decent cost.  Come and support our school and community and see a fantastic firework display, enjoy fabulous food and drink and a bonfire to die for!  I will be there, I hope you will, as members of the PA have worked so hard on this.  Mrs Pearson

Ladies Night

Come on all you mums.  Bring your friends and family to this fabulous event on the 22nd November at school 7 pm.  There are fantastic presents available at very reasonable prices - why go Christmas shopping when you can do it here?  The PA have worked extremely hard to make this event happen - get a group of friends together and make a night of it.

Christmas Fair

The children are very excited about the fair being after school on Friday 7th December and you will be hearing very soon which children will be performing at intervals on the stage in the hall to make the evening go with a swing!!  So much talent in Barnston, it really was hard to choose!  The children are also looking forward to running some stalls themselves - 'how exciting Mrs Pearson, I just can't wait!'  Please get behind the fair and support where you can, the PA will be asking for items and for volunteers soon.

Christmas Cards

The children have designed their own cards which will be on sale to parents asap.  They have worked so hard and are proud of their designs.  Please buy at least one pack of the cards to go towards PA funds - all this goes back into the children.

PA Meetings

The meetings are advertised on orange letter paper - there are a small group of 10-15 parents who are in need of more help and support - please think about joining them as the PA is a vital body in the life of the school and the PA members enjoy the social side of working together - lots of fun, laughter and sharing a drink together!  Most of the members have young children but say their children love them being involved, as it opens up opportunities for the children to play together whilst organising events, either at school or at PA houses.  My husband and I were on our children's PA for years and we have made friends for life from this valuable experience, aswell as giving to the community.  PLEASE JOIN - SEE TRISH GORNALL OR ALI ROBERTS IF YOU ARE INTERESTED OR JUST TURN UP TO THE NEXT MEETING - YOU WILL RECEIVE A VERY WARM WELCOME.

Attendance 2012/13 - 10 October 2012 - Mrs Pearson

Fantastic news - overall attendance so far is 98.3%.  Thank you for making sure that your child is in school as much as possible so that they can access their learning.  It really does impact on children's education having time off during term time - see the VLE link on the homepage on attendance.

Car parking - 10 October 2012 - Mrs Pearson

summer fair and Jubilee celebration - 31 May 2012 - Mrs Pearson

Many thanks to all the PA who worked hard to make the Summer Fair the great success that it was - what a lovely day we had and what a fantastic atmosphere!

The evening Jubilee celebration was an amazing event, enjoyed by hundreds of people.  Many thanks to the WI and Conservation Society, in particular Nicky and Gary Prance who co-ordinated the whole event.  The strawberries and cream, King and Queen parade, songs from the children and letters to the queen, plus an evenings entertainment by the Jazz band was enjoyed by all.  Thank you to all those who supported the two events.  A great sense of community was wonderful to experience!

Call Parents texting and e-mailing - 22 February 2012 - Mrs Pearson

If you have not yet given us your e-mail address please do asap.  We do not expect you to be checking e-mails every day - a text or home phone message will alert you to e-mails or letters on the VLE (you will need to use your password for these).  If you are not already receiving text messages please let the office know straight away.  Many thanks.
